ADGP to partner with Powercruise in 2014/15 Season

 Powercruise basic logo V2

Australian Drifting GP is proud to announce it will be partnering with Powercruise Promotions for the 2014/15 season by holding two rounds within Powercruise Events. Round 1 in Perth October 10th, 11th and 12th 2014 and Round 4 at Sydney Motorsport Park in 2015. ADGP will also run all drifting operations at the event, helping improve drifting for all entrants, and possibly at other Powercruise events.

After successfully running the drifting operations and competitions at the last Powercruise and Powerplay Sydney, the synergy was obvious, and running an ADGP within a Powercruise event was considered a great partnership.

Andrew Hawkins – Director Track Battle Pty Ltd

Combining two national level events has benefits for everyone. ADGP drivers and sponsors get a larger crowd  base, increased track time and more exposure, while ADGP and Powercruise fans get  even better value for money and more entertainment, as the one ticket gets you into the entire event. ADGP drivers will also be able to participate in other drifting events at Powercruise, including full track demos. The Top-16 Driver’s Parade and Top-16 Competition will be packaged into a 2-hour show on the Sunday, so spectators can sit down and watch the main game and still have plenty of their day left to check out the rest of the event, or, more drifting action.

Following the successful involvement with ADGP at Powercruise #47 in Sydney, Powercruise is pleased to extend the partnership with ADGP for the 2014/15 season for the Perth and Sydney rounds. ADGP is leading the way in the drifting scene around Australia and by having two rounds of the ADGP hosted within our Powercruise events, we will be helping bring drifting to a larger market of fans who may never have seen a competition drifting series before, as well as adding excitement and another element of entertainment to our Powercruise events

Powercruise Promotions

For those concerned about schedule clashes, ADGP will not interfere with the current Powercruise program in any way. Regular entrants will get the same track time as any other Powercruise event. ADGP will be added to the program. In Perth, practice and qualifying will be run under lights on the short track at the top of the hill on Friday and Saturday night ( original ADGP Perth layout ) with the main competition held on Sunday. Drivers will also participate in full track demos for the crowd.

In Sydney, it well be held on the South Circuit while Off Street Racing and Powerskids are on the main straight, with extra practice in the morning. Like the recently held Powercrusie 24-Hours of Drift, run by ADGP, we will be running a Figure-8 comp for local entrants, a drifting session for regular Powercrusie entrants and holding full track demos by the ADGP drivers.

More information will become available from the Australian Drifting GP and Powercruise websites

Since we started in 2011, ADGP has grown in size and support as well as  driver, team and car quality. Part of moving forward is learning from not only the new things we have tried that have worked, but by also looking at the things we tried that didn’t work, or didn’t work as well as we would like. Looking forward to the 14/15 season, we have made some changes to the way ADGP will operate to improve the event for fans and sponsors, which will in turn benefit the drivers and teams. Some of our new concepts and deals are still being finalised, but we did announce all of them at the end of year dinner after Round 4, and the support from drivers, teams and sponsors is very positive. Below is some of the major changes and new concepts. Further details will be released over the next 2 months.

Rob Whyte new look

Rob Whyte new look

The 2013/14 Just Car Insurance Australian Drifting GP season has come to and end and Rob Whyte has defended his title by only the narrowest of margins to remain Australian Champion. The finals standings of the championship were still being decided right until the very last battle of the season, with many people’s hampionship being determined by how others went after they were knocked out, including Rob Whyte who was out in the Top-8 and Nick Coulson, who’s championship placing was literally decided by who won the finals of Round4! It was a nail biting way to end the season. Full coverage of Round 4 will be on Speedweek on SBS, Sunday 4th May at 2pm. Make sure you check it out.

The Top-8 in the championship were awarded a Formula D Asia license and at the end of season dinner we also gave out various other awards.

2013/14 ROOKIE OF THE YEAR – Levi Clarke

( Chosen from drivers who have not done more than one round in a season and campaigned the championship previously )

2013/14 MOST IMPROVED – Michael Prosenik

( Determined by comparing last years result to this years result for drivers who did the entire championship )

2013/14 SPIRIT OF DRIFT AWARD - Ben Purtell

2013:14 CHAMPIONSHIP STANDINGSWe are already looking forward to an even bigger and better season in 2014/15, with a host of new changes being announced over the next 2 months. Stay tuned.

The 4th and final round of the 2013/14 Just Car Insurance Australian Drifting GP was an emotional roller coaster of a weekend. With the points so close in the championship it really did go down to the wire. Making it even more intense is just how close so many of the battles were as the drivers drove door to door. The instant replay from multiple angles along with one of the judges in inside the hairpin helped the judging team make some very difficult decisions. The final standings of the championship were on the line right down until the trophy presentation.

Beau Yates took his first win, and also first Top-8 and Top-4 win for that matter, this season in the Wynns/Nitto Toyota 86 defeating a hard charging Michael Prosenik in the Supreme Caravans S13 Silvia. It was a very close battle  that many in the crowd would have found tough to call.

The battle for third place was between Nick Coulson and Levi Clarke, who were both on a mission to get onto the podium for the season, with the winner making it in there. Nick Coulson just took the win in another close and epic battle.  The full results for Round 4 can be found here: CLICK HERE

Full Television coverage of the event will be on Speedweek, on SBS at 3pm Sunday 4th May. Make sure you tune in to check it out.

Kris Frome took the win in ADGP State, making it two podiums in a row, pretty much securing him a spot in the main game of ADGP next season. Well done to all the competitors for an epic show and a big thank you to all the fans, sponsors, crews, drivers and the ADGP Team for a stellar job.

Qualifying is run and done for Round 4 of the 2013/14 Just Car Insurance Australian Drifting GP and Jack Widdas has taken the #1 spot in national in the GH Haulage R31 Skyline.

Grandstand access confirmed for the Thunderdome this weekend.

We are proud to announce that we have overcome the insurance and OH&S issues to finally have access to a section of grandstand on the outside of the bank for this weekend for Round 4 of the Just Car Insurance Australian Drifting GP. We have worked hard since our first event at the Dome to have access to the grandstand for improved viewing, and it will happen for the first time this weekend. We have also reduced the cost from $10 previously for Grandstand access, down to $5, to cover extra insurance and security costs.

To gain access to the grandstand, simply park in the regular parking area and when you go to the ticket booth you can purchase grandstand access, or upgrade your pre-paid ticket.  You then follow the directions on the map at the ticket booth to gain access. Please note, you must sign a disclaimer when buying your grandstand ticket and receive a wristband. Please also note you must be 13 years and older to purchase a grandstand ticket, and there is no access for prams or wheelchairs.

2013/14 Championship Predictions – Who will climb out of “The Blender” in 1st place!

IMG_5286 battle 3d

We have named the 2013/14 season of the Just Car Insurance Australian Drifting GP “The Blender” as after every round the leaderboard comes out totally changed. It is also the closest season of drifting we have had. After three rounds, the top nine drivers are separated by less than 50 points, the top seven by less than 30 points and only 7 points separates 1st and 2nd! With 100 points available to the winner of the round, and 33 points or less for placing 17th and onwards, it is still anyone championship. In theory, if Rob Whyte qualified 1st but is knocked out in the Top-32, anyone ranked in the Top-14 has a shot at the title, but, anything can happen in drifting!  We thought we would take a look at the Top-10 drivers in ADGP and see analyze what sort of shot they have at making it on the podium for the season.
